Jane Fonda & Lily Tomlin: Ladies Night Live 2022 Movie Review
Netflix has released the long awaited ladies night with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. If you don’t know who Jane and Lily are you will have to reconsider all your life choices as you have seriously missed out on years of quality comedy and acting. But don’t worry, her movies, TV series and stand ups are all over our screens. Lately, the couple is best known for the Netflix series Grace and Frankie, and even after they wrapped their last streak, fans have been screaming for more. Including me.
This hour-long comedy special begins with the classic Dolly Parton hit “9 to 5″ as we watch female comedy legends hastily get ready for the show, including the hilarious Rachel Bloom, Michelle Buteau, Cristela Alonzo, Margaret Cho, Heather McMahan, Tracey Ashley, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes and Iliza Shlesinger. Each comedian takes the stage to entertain us throughout the show, filling us with pure joy and entertainment. The comedians have approximately 3 to 5 minutes to present their stuff, with Lily and Jane moderating and chatting in between. There is definitely something for everyone here. Lots of jokes around Covid-19 and masks – which aren’t always the funniest, but we need to shed some light on the last tough two years.
Taking to the stage at the historic Hollywood Palladium to a massive standing ovation, the famous duo begin with a feminist, empowering segment, explaining that the night is about celebrating women in comedy.
What makes Lily and Jane so enjoyable to watch is that they have amazing chemistry and mutual respect that shines through. Glamorous and glittering, these glorious women gave us a wonderful gift by sharing their stories by answering questions from fans in the audience. These include questions like “What’s your favorite cheese?” and “You were in the movie 9 to 5 but how many hours do you actually work?” – so really delving deep into her personal life.
Referring to politics, Grace and Frankie, their careers and ages, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda are and always will be queens of screen and stage, and they don’t stop there. I find the couple incredibly inspiring and gives me hope and strength to continue pursuing my personal and professional goals. I highly recommend watching it if you’re a fan, if you’re a comedy fan, and if you’re an aspiring writer, actor, and/or comedian.
