Spread the love

The new psychological horror series ‘Clarice’ is basically the continued version of the 1991 classic ‘The Silence of the Lambs’. The bar of expectations from the show is immensely big considering it is a film adaptation of a classic. Premiered on CBS it seems like a typical CBS cop show. The series seemed to give just an average thrill to the viewers. The standard for success is super high, and ‘Clarice’ lands somewhere in the middle.

The show’s focus is on Clarice’s life after solving the case

The series sets from 1993 right after the end moments of the movie ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ (1991), after Clarice Starling (Rebecca Breeds) tracks down and kills the notorious serial killer ‘Buffalo Bill’. She thereafter suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder from her experiences of capturing the serial killer. Clarice’s colleagues despise her because of her high popularity for catching a serial killer. She seems to be the media’s most demanded FBI agent as they hound her like a celebrity due the popularity case. She has also been tapped by the FBI. She has also been attending therapy sessions. The show basically focuses on the mental state, trauma and life of Clarice after successfully solving the case and catching the serial killer.

Well we liked how the show keeps the story in the 90s so no new technology like smartphones is used. The series also shows how the male dominated society waits for a woman to break, how they are constantly trying to tear her down by using gender to dismiss her emotional intelligence and her intuitiveness.

‘Clarice’ seems to intrigue on some moments but on some moments it may appear as just another criminal-cop show, wherein the cop is trying to solve crime mysteries.

Rebecca’s adaptation of Clarice is really well

Rebecca Breeds starring as Clarice had a tough bar to match. But she surely studied Jodie Foster’s adaptation of the character really well. From the accent to her intense gaze, she undoubtedly tried her best to give the audience the best of her performance.

Conclusion

According to ABC Entertainment, the series seems to entertain you if you enjoy watching crime-drama. There is a lot of psychological drama involved in the show. And the show basically shows how Clarice’s life changed after she captured and killed the famous serial killer ‘Buffalo Bill’. How her life turned into a nightmare from which she is enabled to get over and how her mental and emotional state is disturbed. It also shows the cop-criminal drama, this show is for you. Clarice tries to prove her worth to her workmates by solving new crimes cases. As everyone in her office thinks she only got lucky with the Buffalo Bill case. We would give this series 3 out of 5 stars.
