The Taming of the Shrewd 2 2023 Movie Review
The occasion is actually quite nice: Kaska ( Magdalena Lamparska ) is supposed to receive an important prize and fly back to the USA for it. However, Patryk ( Mikolaj Roznerski ) isn’t so happy about it. So he is happy that his partner is about to receive an award. However, this brings with it the risk that she will run into her ex-boyfriend again. But Kaska isn’t always completely sure about the relationship either; mistrust and jealousy have found their way into the partnership. They always feel compelled to reassure themselves of their love. The fact that other people are constantly interfering and rivalries arise doesn’t really help either…
Netflix actually releases tons of romantic comedies in December with a bit of tinsel stuck on them in order to sell them as Christmas films. This year, however, the streaming service obviously has little interest in it and preferred to license various titles on US television that are intended to fill this gap. But you don’t have to give up on romance completely. A year and a half after The Taming of the Shrew comes a sequel to the Polish romantic comedy about two people and a coveted land that everyone is fighting over. The Taming of the Shrew 2 reveals what happened to the couple after they cleared numerous obstacles.
Actually, in such films it is always implied that in the end everything is fine and everyone has found each other. In the second part we have to realize that this is just a pipe dream, everyday life brings with it new problems. You don’t rely on external obstacles that the couple has to deal with. Rather, they are getting in their own way because trust in their partner and therefore in the relationship as such is not quite as great. The focus of The Taming of the Shrew 2 is therefore less on romance than on the rather ugly sides of human coexistence. Some things arise from misunderstandings, some from fundamental uncertainty.
But so that everything doesn’t become too bitter, it’s done with humor. At least screenwriter Hanna Wesierska tries to include jokes on a regular basis. But the result is not really convincing. For example, if Patryk engages in some kind of competition with a supposed competitor, such as chopping wood or ice bathing, then it’s not as strange as you might have thought. The Taming of the Shrew 2 is already replaceable. Sure, the predecessor wasn’t a creative masterpiece either. At least the scenario surrounding the embattled country and the various mischief was something different in the romantic comedy business. The dream of having your own honey empire isn’t exactly commonplace.
There isn’t much of that left in the sequel, which means the arguments for wanting to watch the film have become even fewer. The cast is attractive, both among returning and new arrivals. There are beautiful landscape shots, suitable for the winter season. And it’s not like you actually have to be angry about The Taming of the Shrew 2 . However, it is unlikely that the great success of the first part can be repeated. Fans can of course take a look if they want to know what happened to the characters. But you can also do better things with your time.
“The Taming of the Shrew 2” tells of the couple’s everyday life, which is characterized by mistrust and jealousy. The result is not as funny as expected, not romantic anyway. There’s a lot to behold when attractive people make life difficult for each other in front of beautiful landscapes.
