The First Omen 2024 Movie Review

When a young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate.

As the title suggests, The First Omen will serve as a prequel to the 1976 film The Omen and will include the character of Father Brennan. In 1976’s The Omen, Father Brennan was played by Patrick Troughton (The Second Doctor in Doctor Who) who was in his mid-50s at the time. In The First Omen, that role is played by Ralph Ineson, who is currently in his 50s, suggesting the prequel may be set only a short time before the events of The Omen. “The First Omen,” a prequel to the 1976 horror film “The Omen,” has released its terrifying first trailer.

It follows a woman, Margaret (Nell Tiger Free), who goes to Rome to fully commit to the church. However, she soon faces the emergence of a deadly evil. Along with Tiger Free, the cast of the horror film includes Bill Nighy, Ralph Ineson and Sônia Braga. The pteque marks the feature directorial debut of Arkasha Stevenson. The writers are Stevenson, Tim Smith and Keith Thomas from a story by Ben Jacoby.

“The Omen” told the story of Robert Thorn (Gregory Peck) and his wife, Katherine “Kathy” Thorn (Lee Remick), adopting a son whom they name Damien (Harvey Spencer Stevens). After a series of ominous events, including Damien deliberately knocking Kathy over a balcony and causing her to miscarry, it is revealed that Damien is the son of Satan and the Antichrist. The original film was directed by Richard Donner and written by David Seltzer.

Following a formidable box office performance of over $60 million, “The Omen” went on to spawn three sequels: 1978’s “Damien: Omen II,” 1981’s “Omen III: The Final Conflict” and 1991’s “Omen IV: The Awakening.” A remake of the film was also released in 2006 starring Liev Schreiber as Robert and Julia Stiles as Kathy. In 2016, A&E premiered the television series “Damien” based on the original film, about an adult Damien Thorn (Bradley James) being reintroduced to his status as the Antichrist, but it was canceled after one season. “The First Omen” is the first prequel in the franchise.
