One More Time 2023 Movie Review

A time travel comedy in Swedish, which lets us revisit the sweet years after the turn of the millennium. About 40-year-old Amelia who gets hit and wakes up in 2002, on her 18th birthday. In order to successfully leave the past behind and come back to the present, she must figure out what she needs to fix.

In the Swedish ” One More Time ” we get to take part in the ” Monday all week ” concept.

Here we meet Amelia whose life has not turned out the way she thought it would when she was 18. Now on her 40th birthday, she wishes for nothing more than to be 18 again. A wish that comes true when she gets stuck in a time loop that lets her relive her 18th birthday over and over again. This wish is something she will regret bitterly.

The concept as such is well known and is usually about a basic problem to solve for the main character. Here it is true that Amelia’s life has not been to her satisfaction, but it is a bit vague what went wrong and what she really wants.

The characters feel somewhat exaggerated but are still easy to like and sympathize with. Visually, the film is also exaggerated as everything you see is so colorful that it hurts the eyes. I can’t for the life of me remember 2002 being this colorful…

Where Amelia is with the school hunk Max, it soon becomes clear that her love interest should be directed at someone else. This person is Fiona, whom Amelia has been friends with since before and got away from. Fiona doesn’t belong to the cool crowd that Amelia does. But after each time loop, it becomes more and more obvious that they are these two who belong together.

The film borrows a lot from ” Monday all week ” a film that you also watch in the film. But “ One More Time ” is entertaining for what it is, even if it’s nothing unique.
