Cross Review 2024 Tv Show Series Cast Crew Online
As a fan of detective series, I was initially excited to watch Alex Cross. The show has a gripping plot and a compelling central mystery that had the potential to make it truly stand out. However, its execution is marred by heavy-handed “political correctness” that detracts from the storytelling. For instance, the portrayal of the police department feels overly contrived, with 99% of the officers being black and the chief being a woman. While diversity in casting is welcome, the lack of balance in character representation feels unnatural and forced, especially since all the good characters are black, and all the shady ones (male, of course) are white. There isn’t a single likeable white male character in the entire series. It left me wondering what message the creators were trying to convey.
The show also includes awkwardly inserted commentary on contemporary issues. For example, in one scene Alex Cross randomly lectures his cop friend about climate change. Additionally, scenes featuring black protesters against police violence appear repeatedly, but they feel disconnected and somewhat random. If the writers feel the need to include such commentary in an entertainment program, they should at least present it more subtly instead of blatantly forcing it upon the audience.
Another issue is the portrayal of Alex Cross himself. Although he is meant to be portrayed as a brilliant detective, the opening scene intended to showcase his intellect instead features him intimidating a suspect with a childish remark about his p*nis being “genetically” bigger. This is just cringe-worthy, and not the method of a brilliant detective.
That said, the show isn’t without its merits. The serial killer is genuinely compelling, with a chilling presence that keeps the tension high. So, to sum up, Alex Cross is a show with potential, but its forced and clumsy approach to being overly politically correct ruins the whole experience.
