Dang! Review 2026 Tv Show Series Cast Crew Online

Before I start, I just want to say that I only watched the Pilot (which doesn’t make sense to be called that if they dropped all 8 episodes on the same day), but judging by the plot of the last episode, it seems like the show may only have 1 season.

To go through the positives first, the art style is okay, it’s not grotesque like those other adult cartoons people criticised back then (Brickleberry, Big Mouth etc.), it’s very easy on the eyes, and has an anime-esque charm to it with the expressions. The animation is serviceable too, it was done by Titmouse, although it does seem like they weren’t given enough time or budget for it. Still though, it’s not as rigid and stiff.

Also the voice acting is fine, the characters don’t sound obnoxious or anything. Surprisingly, the ‘pilot’ didn’t have a lot of swearing in it, I think I only heard a few. Usually some of these animated shows fall into the trap of relying too much on profanity for humour, but this one seemed to hold restraint, at least for the first episode.

But the main issue I have with the show is that it simply isn’t that funny. Too many jokes rely on you understanding specific pop culture references and certain types of social situations and quirks that not many would relate to or get. Just to give a brief idea of the kind of jokes they make in the ‘Pilot’, it ranges from: Grindset alphas, music celebrities (like Marshmello and Justin Timberlake), social media, microaggressions, toilet humour, pronouns, OnlyFans, therapy, sex and sexuality, periods. The show is clearly appealing to a Gen Z audience, but the way they go about it feels very surface-level and a bit out of touch.

I’m not saying they can’t make jokes about all that, other well-recieved adult animated shows do and pull it off effectively, like in the TBS era of American Dad! (oh hey this show’s title also has an exclamation mark), the problem is that the show fails to give these jokes actual substance beyond the premise of the jokes. The dull line delivery from the characters doesn’t really help either, because the show lacks a dry, but punchy sense of humour to accommodate for it, so it just ends up feeling awkward instead.

Additionally, the Gen Z focused jokes make up most of the humour in the show, and not enough is dedicated to the characters personalities and the chemistry they have with each other driving the comedy.

Speaking of the characters, they’re pretty bland, despite how much the show likes hammering you over the head about their flaws and traits. Andrew (guy with the blue shirt) being a pushover, Eunice (the lavender haired girl) being a narcissist and, to a lesser extent, Ruthie (the older sister) being an overachiever. Instead of just showing us these flaws and qualities through the situations they end up in or their actions, it always feels the need to tell us what they are before doing so, or have it be so obvious.

To give some compliments, I think Andrew is the best character of the trio. He’s the most likeable, has the most potential to be a fun, engaging character and was the only one that had jokes that made me chuckle (it was more air blowing through my nose type of laugh but still). Makes sense considering that he’s voiced by the creator behind Dang!, Andrew Law. He might be a self insert now that I think about it, but don’t quote me on that.

The show also includes some gross-out jokes that mostly serves as shock value. In the ‘Pilot’, we had Eunice doing an OnlyFans style stream where she squishes bread with her bare feet, all shown up close (she does this again near the end which, believe or not, was actually important to the plot…) later a rat humping a cockroach (but it was animated in a way where some could probably find it humorous?). I will say, at the very least, some of these kind of jokes go by quick and aren’t presented in an overly graphic way, thanks to the show’s simplistic art style.

Then the first episode attempts to have a heartfelt moment near the end, where Andrew and Eunice don’t want Ruthie to go back to her parents in Boston, but it gets undercut by an unfunny incest joke. Then if that wasn’t cringeworthy enough, the episode ends with a lame drug joke (the pink dog pills one from the trailer)

I think the worst thing about the first episode, and probably reflective of the show as a whole, is that it’s just boring. I’m quite used to the raunchiness and vulgarity of these animated sitcoms, so if all that didn’t shock me, what’s left is the episode leaving me feeling nothing. Almost all of the jokes didn’t make me laugh because so much of them are so unnecessarily specific, basic or awkward, and the characters aren’t interesting or entertaining enough for me to care about their hijinks.

I gave this show a watch because it piqued my interest and I wanted to see if Netflix was just messing up with the marketing, since the trailer certainly didn’t raise much of people’s hopes. But yeah, it does seem like the show is exactly how it was marketed in the trailer. Who knows, maybe it gets slightly better if I keep watching, but the fact that the first season only has 8 episodes, coupled with the little amount of views the trailer got (under 250K at the time of writing), doesn’t aspire much confidence on Netflix’s part, and neither does it on mine.
