Crew Girl Review 2026 Tv Show Series Cast Crew Online

Crew Girl is a new Canadian teen sports drama from Netflix, starring Miku Martineau, Sam Braun, and Kyle Clark. The eight-episode first season premieres September 10, 2026.

Review

Crew Girl takes the familiar coming-of-age formula and moves it into the relatively unusual world of competitive rowing. The story follows 16-year-old Teagan Tao, a talented rower whose life changes after a family scandal forces her and her mother to move to a small town. At her elite prep school, there is no girls’ rowing team, so Teagan joins the boys’ varsity crew as its coxswain.

The rowing setting is easily the show’s most distinctive feature. The sport provides plenty of opportunities for competition, teamwork and personal conflict, while Teagan’s position on an all-boys team naturally creates tension. The series also explores themes of belonging, ambition, privilege and identity, giving the teenage drama more substance than just a romance story.

Miku Martineau is the clear center of the series. Teagan has to rebuild her life while proving herself to teammates who initially aren’t sure whether she belongs. Martineau gives the character enough determination and vulnerability to make her journey engaging.

The romantic side of the series revolves around Josh Regis (Sam Braun) and Cam Dillinger (Kyle Clark). Josh is the confident, sometimes arrogant team captain, while Cam is quieter and intensely competitive. Their rivalry creates the show’s central love triangle and will likely be one of its biggest attractions for YA-drama viewers.

The biggest weakness is that the basic story can feel very familiar. The new-school outsider, elite prep-school environment, sports rivalry and love triangle have all been explored many times. The Guardian similarly described the premise as somewhat generic, despite the unusual rowing setting.

Still, the combination of rowing, teenage romance and family drama gives Crew Girl enough personality to appeal to fans of character-driven sports series.

Final Verdict

Crew Girl looks like a fun, easy-to-watch YA sports drama rather than a groundbreaking teen series. Its rowing backdrop gives the familiar romance-and-rivalry formula something fresh, while Miku Martineau provides a likable lead.
