April X is an ambitious independent science-fiction thriller that mixes neo-noir, dystopian drama, mystery and psychological thriller elements. Its futuristic post-Soviet setting is easily one of the film’s biggest strengths. The decaying architecture, dark streets and cold atmosphere give the movie a distinctive visual identity. Festival viewers have particularly praised its cinematography, production design and camera work.
Connor Storrie delivers the film’s standout performance as Bax. His character’s journey becomes increasingly disturbing as his search for April pushes him toward violence, obsession and questionable decisions.
