Just finished the first episode. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed when I found out the new The Big Bang Theory spin-off would be released on HBO and not CBS. If it had been released on CBS, I would have been more confident that the jokes would be funnier. But with HBO, I knew at least the show would have good quality.
So yeah, it’s a good-quality show, and the jokes are fine. They’re not laugh-out-loud funny-you know, the comedy is good, but you don’t actually laugh or smile much, if you understand what I mean.
I honestly loved the concept, and this show has good potential. If they keep bringing in cameos in every episode, it would be super awesome instead of bringing back the same cameo multiple times.
But if they were bringing back the good side characters from The Big Bang Theory, they should have brought Zack back with this group too.
Overall, the first episode was a decently engaging, light comedy-drama. Right now, I’m not expecting too much, but the problem is that I’m still more interested in seeing cameos from The Big Bang Theory than in finding out what happens next, and that’s a big issue.
The cast is great, and the writing and direction are fine. The theme song should have been something awesome like the one from Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. The first episode is under 30 minutes long, which is good, but the comedy should be improved, and the episodes should be more engaging with higher stakes instead of just random killings.
