But what truly resonates is the film’s deeper, more profound message – it uses dreams as a metaphor for people’s excessive reliance on technology and entertainment in this era. What appears to be dazzling imagination is actually an escape from reality. Through the construction and challenges of a series of dreams, the film gradually peels back the layers, ultimately pointing to a profound reflection on AI technology. Although AI is an old topic, Galaxy of Dreams places the discussion against the backdrop of space exploration and agricultural pioneering, using the traditional logic of “human will can conquer nature” to echo the contemporary issue of “breaking free from the shackles of AI”, making it all the more powerful.
What’s most commendable is that the entire film is neither sentimental nor didactic; it’s both stress-relieving and healing, leaving viewers with clear reflections and insights into growth. This is Hedi Wang’s first time leading a film, and his performance is commendable. That roguish-yet-steady demeanor fits his character perfectly, and his improvised comedic bits don’t feel awkward. Victoria Song’s improvement is truly remarkable-a quantum leap from her “Elevator” days. Her dance background makes her fight scenes particularly beautiful; her movements are crisp and convincing. And veteran actors like Zu Feng are incredibly solid-present without stealing the spotlight.
