The Equalizer 3 2023 Movie Review
Robert McCall will put his deadly set of skills to use one final time when he returns for The Equalizer 3 — and the latest The Equalizer 3 news has let fans know exactly when The Equalizer 3 release date will arrive, and what they can expect when it does. Loosely based on the 1980s CBS series starring Edward Woodward, The Equalizer movies have served as successful action vehicles for Denzel Washington. The actor, who has long been one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, is set to turn the Equalizer franchise into a full trilogy in the very near future.
Released during an era where movies about retired assassins and stories centered around vigilante justice have found an increased level of popularity, 2014’s The Equalizer was a big box office hit and a record-breaking R-rated film that led to a 2018 sequel. Based on what the previous two movies have offered, the latest collaborative effort between Fuqua and Washington promises another heavy death toll and another criminal plot for McCall to unravel. Once again, he’s sure to be doing what he can to help someone in need. As for exactly what that would be and what else to expect from the movie, here are the latest The Equalizer 3 updates.
The latest The Equalizer 3 news features new footage for the sequel. The latest The Equalizer 3 trailer is a short tease of the new Denzel Washington movie, but manages to pack in a lot of action. The teaser gives another hint at the story of Denzel Washington’s Robert McCall finding a peaceful life in a new community only for it to be endangered by local mafia, causing him to return to his old ways. It is clear the filmmakers know what works for this franchise and what fans want out of these movies. They are not looking to alter the formula too much, instead focusing on delivering Washington beating up plenty of bad guys.
Later, Sony Pictures confirmed The Equalizer 3 will receive its theatrical release on September 1, 2023. Since that’s the case, it won’t be too long before Denzel Washington’s Robert McCall is back on the big screen, once again taking out gangsters and doing his part to keep people safe. It’s unknown when The Equalizer 3 will release on streaming, nor what streaming platform it will land on.
The Equalizer 3 was confirmed to be in development all the way back in 2018, when director Antoine Fuqua announced his plans to continue the franchise post-The Equalizer 2’s successful release. In addition, Fuqua teased that this chapter of McCall’s story would take place in an international setting. Production officially started on The Equalizer 3 in October of 2022 in Italy and wrapped in January of 2023.
While The Equalizer 3 cast list is fully fleshed out, the only person whose official role and character name is revealed is Denzel Washington (Training Day) as the titular hero Robert McCall. In June of 2022, Dakota Fanning (Man on Fire) was cast in The Equalizer 3, and she can be seen in the trailer asking Robert if he’s ever killed anyone before, as well as a few scenes of banter that were revealed at CinemaCon. David Denman (The Office) joined the cast of The Equalizer 3, along with Sonia Ammar (Scream 2022).
The following have also been cast in The Equalizer 3, each in undisclosed roles: Andrea Dodero (Thou Shalt Not Hate), Remo Girone (Ford v. Ferrari), Eugenio Mastrandrea (From Scratch), Daniele Perrone (Baaria), Andrea Scarduzio (The Crown), and Gaia Scodellaro (You, Me, and the Apocalypse). Presumably, most of these characters will either be villains in the Sicilian mafia that McCall finds himself up against or the friends he has made and swears to protect. Either way, The Equalizer 3 has a stellar cast that is sure to bring their A-game to the screen as Fuqua ends the Equalizer franchise.
The Equalizer 3 news has also included an official synopsis released for the film. The Equalizer 3 story will see Robert McCall in post-retirement, attempting to enjoy the quiet life in southern Italy. He tries his best to keep his experiences of the past from haunting him, but finds no such luck. When McCall comes to realize that many of his friends are living indebted to and under the control of the mafia, he makes it his personal goal to be their protector and plans to go up against the criminal organization, freeing his friends from their grasp once and for all. The Equalizer 3 synopsis can be read below.
Since giving up his life as a government assassin, Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) has struggled to reconcile the horrific things he’s done in the past and finds a strange solace in serving justice on behalf of the oppressed. Finding himself surprisingly at home in Southern Italy, he discovers his new friends are under the control of local crime bosses. As events turn deadly, McCall knows what he has to do: become his friends’ protector by taking on the mafia.
The Equalizer 3 trailer was released quite early, meaning director Antoine Fuqua and Sony are trying to garner as much hype as possible for the final installment of the trilogy. The trailer reveals numerous things about the movie, such as McCall’s normal life in Italy, his relationships with his friends, and, of course, his quest for justice. It doesn’t take long for McCall to find himself back in action and declaring war on the mafia, with the trailer depicting a particularly hard-to-watch display of his skills while wriggling information out of a mafia lackey. The Equalizer 3 trailer promises the high-octane action and thrills that the franchise is known for.
