Non Negotiable 2024 Movie Review

Alan Bender ( Mauricio Ochmann ) is the man you call when there are hostages and someone has to negotiate. He has been deployed many times and he doesn’t shy away from any mission. So he doesn’t hesitate for long when he gets a call and learns that someone has kidnapped the president. But as if that wasn’t enough responsibility, the case becomes even more complicated and bigger. Because Alan’s wife Victoria ( Tato Alexander ) has also been kidnapped and is now being held captive. A mere coincidence? Not at all. In fact, the kidnapper Vicente Zabrano ( Leonardo Ortizgris ) had insisted that Alan take over the negotiations because the two men have a history…

If you like dark material, you were a little disappointed by Netflix this month , at least in terms of original developments. The thriller Gone into the Night , in which a father searches for his two missing children, was more or less the only title. It was only towards the end that the streaming service brought out a few suitable candidates. In addition to the sequels to tried and tested series, there is the new series Tokyo Swindlers about a fraudulent group that is aiming for a big coup. If you prefer to be on the side of the good guys, there is the Mexican film Not Everything Is Negotiable , in which a man has to do everything he can to free the president and his own wife. A lot of responsibility for one person.

Officially, the production is a thriller comedy. But you don’t necessarily have to agree with this classification. Sure, there is humor, especially in the first half, when the professional and private life overlap. But you shouldn’t expect to get a lot of laughs. As Not Everything Is Negotiable progresses , the main focus is on how this strange kidnapping will turn out. The humor, however, helps to accept the rather absurd scenario. The idea that the president can be kidnapped just like that, for example, is unlikely to be realistic. One thing is clear: you shouldn’t expect credibility from all this. The film is simply not interested in that.

A more relevant question for the audience might be how suspenseful it is. There is definitely some, for a number of reasons. On the one hand, as is always the case with kidnappings and hostage-taking, you want to know how it all ends. Will the hero be able to solve the problem? Will there be victims along the way? In Not Everything Is Negotiable , however, the motive is not entirely clear. Vicente does have financial demands, as is usual in such cases. But it becomes clear early on that there must be more to the story. The audience is therefore allowed to speculate as to what the antagonist is up to and what prompted him to commit this act. Especially since, before things really get going, you see him in other situations that do not necessarily portray him as a villain.

There is no shortage of twists and turns, and events unfold rapidly. It never gets boring, especially since the running time is surprisingly short at less than ninety minutes. Since there are also some very atmospheric moments, it can be worthwhile to take a look at Not Everything Is Negotiable and get involved in this somewhat different kidnapping. This may not be a milestone in the genre, but it is entertaining enough. If you don’t have the time or inclination to watch an entire series, you will find something here that may not be remembered for long, despite the social component, but serves its purpose for now and then. Whether there really needs to be a sequel, as is at least suggested towards the end, is debatable”Not everything is negotiable” follows a negotiator who not only has to free the kidnapped president, but also his own wife. The thriller is quite entertaining, also because of the various twists and turns, as long as you don’t have high expectations of the credibility.
