GTMax 2024 Movie Review
A new, edgy action film on Netflix, GTMAX is part of the list of feature films with big stunts that demonstrate the success of French know-how in this field on the platform. After Balle Perdue and AKA , the streaming service is offering this new film written and directed by Olivier Schneider , who is not only an actor, screenwriter and director but also a stunt director and stunt coordinator who has worked on films such as Taken , Fast & Furious 6 and the James Bond 007 Spectre and No Time to Die .
His skills were put to good use in GTMAX, which features numerous stunts and other perilous motocross and Tmax chases. The film tells the story of Soélie Carella ( Ava Baya ), a motocross prodigy whose dreams of success are shattered following an accident. She then devotes herself to mechanics and training her little brother Michael ( Riadh Belaïche) .
The Carella family, composed of patriarch Daniel ( Gérard Lanvin ) and his sister Hélène ( Clémentine Célarié ), own a once popular motocross circuit but are now on the verge of bankruptcy. Michael tries to find funds and agrees to join a gang of Tmax scooter drivers, led by Elyas ( Jalil Lespert ) and Théo ( Jérémie Laheurte ) for dangerous missions. Yet terrified at the idea of getting back in the saddle, Soélie decides to protect her brother and take his place within this gang in order to carry out a dangerous high-level robbery in Paris.
The young woman has no choice but to overcome her fears and demons from the past in the hope of saving her family. But police officer Lucas ( Thibault Evrard ), who has been on the gang’s trail for a long time, is also on her tail. At the end of GTMAX, Soélie is cornered and she has no choice but to participate in the robbery planned by Elyas and Théo. She must take the place of Yacine ( Samir Decazza ) whom Elyas killed because he had been arrested by the police.
Especially since Elyas wants to pin the blame on Michael, Soélie’s brother, so the latter must follow Elyas if she wants to protect her family. The heist takes place in broad daylight in Paris and consists of a diamond theft while it is being transported by a guard in a car. If the plan goes smoothly, things get complicated when the police arrive and Lucas chases Soélie, Elyas and Théo on a scooter. The three of them get separated until Théo gets hit by a car. He decides to give the stones to Soélie and finish on foot.
Soélie and Elyas meet on the docks after a long chase with police officer Lucas. Elyas knocks over Lucas’s motorcycle and the two men fight. Soélie arrives on the scene and finds Elyas handcuffed and Lucas unconscious. She makes Elyas understand that Théo actually ran away with the diamonds and she throws the handcuff key into the Seine. Soélie explains to Elyas that three witnesses saw him kill Yacine and that he can no longer threaten her or she will reveal everything.
GTMAX ends with a new motocross race on the Carella family circuit, which the latter was finally able to keep despite the debts. Soélie and her brother Michael will participate in the race.Police Officer Lucas is also present but explains to the family that he is no longer officially on duty, but that this does not prevent him from continuing to investigate and ask questions.
As the race is about to begin, Soélie sees Théo in the distance, who winks at her. We can therefore assume that the latter sold the diamonds to collect a nice windfall and that he had to help the Carella family pay its debts to remain the owner of the circuit. This rather open ending could lead to a sequel, which could revolve around the reunion of Théo and Soélie but also Elyas’ revenge or Lucas’ investigation. For the moment, Netflix has not announced a franchise for GTMAX.
