Georgie, Mandy, and her parents are still fun to watch. I liked the theme song too. The comedy still works, though not as much, but it’s fine. Most shows add a laugh track when they think almost every line is funny, like The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men (until season 8), which actually had funny dialogue throughout. But here, the comedy is similar to Young Sheldon, except they added a laugh track. This episode feels more like just another episode of Young Sheldon focusing on Georgie and Mandy. They’ve added 2-3 new characters, but they aren’t likable, interesting, or funny, and that’s on the writers.
In this episode, Georgie says at the start that he likes laugh tracks in shows like Frasier, and that’s how they justify the laugh track in this show since it’s his spinoff. When they first announced the show, I thought both Georgie and Mandy would be shown living in a new place, having moved on from their Young Sheldon life. But it’s just a continuation-they’re still living in Mandy’s parents’ house, with other Young Sheldon characters coming and going. So, is this really a new show or just another Young Sheldon episode focused on Georgie and Mandy? If they had started fresh, it could have connected better with a new audience. Also, some scenes, like Mandy fighting with her mom and planning to leave, already happened in Young Sheldon, and Georgie is still doing the same job he had there. In The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon indirectly mentioned that Georgie got married twice, and both became his ex-wives. So, we will probably see his second or even third wife on this show.
Overall: The first episode doesn’t offer anything new, but it’s still watchable and has some humor. It may not disappoint fans who miss Young Sheldon. For me, Young Sheldon ended on a high note, and there was no need for a direct continuation (the story seems to pick up just 2-3 months after the last episode of Young Sheldon). They should’ve given Georgie and Mandy a fresh start in a different city with new fun characters and a completely new setup.
