Dune: Prophecy Review 2024 Tv Show Series Cast Crew Online
Well, all I have to say is that Frank Herbert would be rolling over in his grave if he ever saw the way, his Dune universe is being corrupted in such a perverse way. Dune: Prophecy(DP) draws from Schools of Dune prequel novels written by Brian Herbert(Son of Frank Herbert) and Kevin J Anderson which were based on the original Frank Herbert’s creation. However, DP occurs after these novels and is a perversion of the original works to showcase & glorify sociopathic women with a proclivity for misandry.
The story starts off with Valya & Tula Harkonnen, sisters who are exiled since, their houses betrayed humanity while fighting the thinking machines. So, these sisters join the Bene Gesserit sect which is comprised of only women, and start scheming & plotting to replace all rulers of other houses with rulers who are under their control under the pretext of a prophecy given by the previous mother superior. Though, none of them actually know the specifics of the prophecy or how it’ll unfold.
If you are new to the Dune lore then, to be clear, the Harkonnen & the Bene Gesserit were actually, the antagonists in the original series. They are portrayed as a bunch of power hungry & manipulative factions who are devoid of anything human and live only to gain and retain power & control.
DP takes these antagonists from the original series, and doesn’t spin it around to showcase why they turned out like the way they did or give the audience the anti-hero spin. Rather, they go a step ahead in making these women more domineering, ruthless & manipulate while, showcasing their contempt for the male rulers of the houses. More or less, glorifying their villiany.
Certain dialogues are outrageous such as, in the first episode, a woman talks about being sold to a man who made money by peddling flesh of children so, she bidded her time until she could slit the man’s throat in his sleep and then proceeded to do the same to her parents, then laughs about it while, Valya gives an approving smile on hearing the woman. The scene looked exceptionally psychotic.
Valya is no hero either, she seizes the role of the mother superior within the Bene Gesserit by committing murder of a sister in the sect who opposed her and proclaiming “Sisterhood above all”, after she commits murder.
As mentioned, it has a lot of themes of misandry & general sociopathic behavior of women on a collective level. Essentially, the whole Bene Gesserit sect is shown as comprised of misandrists under training to manipulate or kill.
It’s not just Valya & her Bene Gesserit. Ynez, a princess of House Corrino and the supposed woman to take over as the ruler of all Imperium through Bene Gesserit manipulation, threatens a child with murder and then goes around sleeping with men outside marriage.
The whole series is about, how Valya & her Bene Gesserit seize power & dipose the ruling monarch through subterfuge & deception.
Frankly, I found it lacked the charm & caliber of the original series. This looked more like a propaganda TV series than, an actual story from the Frank Herbert’s Dune universe. It’s even more worse due to the acting by Emily Watson who plays the role of Valya Harkonnen. She somehow reminded me of the character Umbridge from the Harry Potter series and not, a sinister Bene Gesserit mother superior.
Wouldn’t recommend watching this cause, it just ruins the original series in an appalling way.
