Comedy Revenge Review 2024 Tv Show Series Cast Crew Online
Serving as the sequel to last year’s comedy reality series, Comedy Royale, Comedy Revenge sees 18 Korean comedians compete in a series of frightfully difficult challenges to be given the coveted comedy crown. With 6 episodes and the wits of Lee Kyung-kyu at the heart of this, Korea’s finest comedy minds are ready to make you laugh.
The idea here is to try and find the best multi-talented comedian from the groups, with a series of different challenges to test the depth of their comedy prowess. These vary from roasting challenges to slapstick and physical comedy capers. The judges happen to be the people in the audience, who vote for those they like the best, alongside Kyung-kyu of course who watches on from the back (or not as the case can sometimes be!)
Now, comedy is subjective of course, and given Korea’s more conservative state, don’t expect anything akin to Ricky Gervais’ roasts toward celebs or Frankie Boyle in his prime. This is very much a silly, light-hearted affair and even the roasts, all things considered, aren’t really that harsh. Or maybe it’s just that I’m so used to the scathing British humour over here, you guys will have to be the judge of that!
The first episode is arguably the weakest of the bunch, but there’s a nice little twist at the end that does open things up in a compelling way. It’s here that the show introduces some nice gags and challenges, including an improv round where the comedians all get dressed up and act out various scenarios. We also get a round where the gang have to make the crowd laugh by adopting a variety of different characters, ranging from Squidward to the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland. I won’t reveal too much but these do, at least, shake things up a bit in an amusing way.
Much like Comedy Royale though, Comedy Revenge is going to be an acquired taste. It’s not going to be harsh or raunchy enough for some, and there’s a good chance some will find this really cringy. However, for those who can stick with it, Comedy Revenge has some nice moments and those after a light bite of comedy may find enough to whet the appetite. Just don’t expect anything that’s going to blow you away anytime soon.
