Baby John 2025 Movie Review

As someone who’s been a die-hard fan of Vijay Thalapathy’s THERI, I walked into Baby John with cautious optimism. Sure, it’s a remake, but I was hoping they’d at least add some originality or put a fresh spin on the story. Instead, what I got felt like a fourth-generation carbon copy of the original-and not a very good one at that.

The biggest problem for me was how much this film depended on THERI. Every iconic moment, expression, and stylistic quirk of Vijay was blatantly imitated by Varun Dhawan-and it just didn’t work. Vijay’s mannerisms are so distinct and unique to him that seeing someone else try to replicate them felt almost awkward. What made THERI magical was its authenticity and Vijay’s natural charisma. Here, it felt forced and hollow.

The music, too, was a mess. In THERI, the background score was like an invisible thread tying the whole movie together, heightening every emotion. But in Baby John, there were two completely disconnected BGMs-one for the character and another for the fight scenes. Neither added much impact, and instead of pulling me into the story, it kept pulling me out.

Then there’s the editing. One thing I loved about THERI was how the scenes flowed naturally, allowing me to get lost in the story. Here, the choppy cuts, incomplete dialogues, and rushed pacing made the film feel disjointed. It felt like they were rushing to wrap things up as quickly as possible, and in doing so, they completely missed the heart of the story.

Honestly, I started losing interest within the first 30 minutes. I even walked out of the theater for a bit because I was so frustrated. But then I thought, “I’ve already paid for the ticket, and it’s not like I’ll find a rickshaw easily in Bangalore,” so I came back and sat through the rest of it. It didn’t get much better.

And then there’s the Salman Khan cameo at the end. Why was that even there? It felt so out of place and unnecessary. The voice message at the start and his random appearance in the climax added nothing to the story. It was just… confusing.

In the end, Baby John felt like a soulless cash grab. It didn’t have the charm, emotional depth, or originality of THERI. Instead, it left me longing to rewatch the original and reminded me why Vijay Thalapathy is irreplaceable.
