Avatar: The Way Of Water is an upcoming English movie scheduled to be released on 16 Dec, 2022. The movie is directed by James Cameron and will feature Michelle Yeoh, Zoe Saldana, Kate Winslet and Sigourney Weaver as lead characters. Other popular actors who were roped in for Avatar: The Way Of Water are Oona Chaplin, Sam Worthington and Jemaine Clement.

Its unbelievable success and popularity amongst audiences worldwide even resulted in a video game being made about the same. Cameron had stated the possibility of sequels if the first movie was successful and since then the franchise’s resurfacing has been through incredible amounts of ups and downs slowing down the making of Avatar: The Way of Water and subsequently postponing the three other sequels that would follow this one.

Taking place decades after the happenings of the first movie that ended with the humans’ defeat; Avatar: The Way of Water will see Jake Sully’s life with Neytiri and the family they’ve found in the safety of the Na’vi community. The feeling of peace, however, is short-lived for them. They must leave their refuge and explore the fascinating regions of Pandora. An old threat is returning in its full glory to disrupt the lives of Jake and Neytiri. With the help of the Na’vi army, the two now must do everything in their power to annihilate the threat that is coming for their community and their family.

The sequel is bringing back most of the original cast members to reprise the roles they’ve played before. Zoe Saldana is returning as Neytiri along with Sam Worthington playing the role of Jake Sully, the human that turned and joined the good side. Sigourney Weaver is coming back as well but this time not as her deceased character in the last film. Here she will play Jake and Neytiri’s adoptive daughter Kiri.

Stephen Lang will be returning as his evil Quaritch and according to him, this sequel will have a much more terrifying version of the main villain. Quaritch’s death in the first Avatar is definitely not stopping him from coming back with a vengeance.

Cameron is teaming up with his Titanic star Kate Winslet for the first time since the historical hit. Winslet will join the cast as free diver Ronal who, in the actress’ words is “a pivotal character in the ongoing story”.

The Sopranos star Edie Falco is set to make her appearance as General Frances Ardmore, the commander in charge of RDA. CCH Pounder will be back as Mo’at, Neytiri’s mother and a spiritual leader. Matt Gerald as Corporal Wainfleet joins the deceased RDA baddies who will be coming back to life to once again mess with the Na’vi. The Walking Dead star Cliff Curtis will be adding to the cast as Tonowari, the leader of the new Metkayina clan.

Game of Thrones star Oona Chaplin is also reportedly joining the cast to play what will be a significant character in the sequels, Varang. While both the new and the returning cast members seem to be pretty much in accordance with the expectations, Fast and Furious famous Vin Diesel joining the party that is mostly about the importance of family is without a doubt as meta as it gets. We’ve all seen the memes.

Ending the fans’ decade-long wait with a teaser trailer finally showing up in May 2022; the hype is already high around the most awaited sequel of the year. With a soothing soundtrack accompanying us as we float above the water and dive in with the Na’vi clan, the trailer sets the tone for the gorgeous imagery that awaits. The peaceful species will again face human evil but now they’re strengthened by the power that comes from the sense of community and most essentially, that of family.
